I feel that seeing as though this debacle has reached a high on the list of hot topics, i should shed my opinion on the matter.

I have been reading a whole lot about the Fokofpolisiekar arguments. I have heard Pro-fokof arguments as well as Anti-fokof arguments. I am not for either. I couldn't give a shit what fokof do, i really could not give a rats tiny arsehole. I, however, do understand and respect both sides of the argument. I understand and respect the Pro-side, which as Uno mildly put it, they are a product of "suburban life" by which he means the northern suburbs of Cape Town. Which as we all know, house the majority of the white Afrikaners within in the city limits. There are many strange and wonderful people out there, and I think that Uno's generalisation is a bit off key, I fully understand his intent, however it could be perceived in the wrong way. Not everyone that comes out of the suburbs are predisposed to be angry and unhappy, especially angry and unhappy towards their parents. Not every suburban parent is conservative and have ridiculous moral values. It probably is correct that the former is exactly what fokof are, which is why i don't actually like them, I don't relate to them, I don't understand the hate and stupidity, yes stupidity, then again, i am not mad about rock music per-se. I also believe that the followers are not all poenks and pussy's, but some of them hunt for an image. Fokof are cool, I don't think they are, but they make money and people buy their music, so they must be doing something right. I also understand and respect the Anti-side, because one has to be objective about societal acts. And in my opinion, being blasphemous out in the open would prove to be extremely offensive for the religious crowd. Now, I don't agree, nor do i disagree with the boycotts and protests and just plain hostile take on the whole situation. If the darned dude wants to rant and rave against God, he should actually keep it to himself, because a whole lot of the people that pay for the food on his plate on a daily basis, are religious. We know that there are a good couple of religious people that listen to afrikaans rock. It is however, their very own choice to do as they please. If they feel they need to be blasphemous to broadcast their message, then they are indeed stupid as per my current opinion.
When starting a band, you have two things in mind. One, a love and passion for music. Two, money. Now there are two takes on the latter. I have no idea what their sales figures are, but i can only imagine that the blasphemy of one band member could cripple the band. Many of the followers are not going to be interested in purchasing their music if they persist to be blasphemous, they could also gain other followers that think it's cool to be blasphemous. Now, I am not 100% clear on this topic so I am going to leave it at that. I do think that if they had just not been blasphemous, they would have saved themselves a whole lot of discomfort. Don't you think that the other band members should try and keep one rogue member in order??? Which is why i think the whole band are a couple of sods. I say this with great relief and i know that none of them are going to try and lash out at me if they read this article. They clearly do believe in freedom of speech, which I am a firm believer in. So here's to that!!! FUCK YOU FOKOFPOLISIEKAR, EK DINK JULLE IS KAK!!
Now i have broken a rule to what i believe to be freedom of speech. I believe that your freedom of speech is only yours if it does not infringe on the rights of other people. Which in fact, is what our law system is based on, the roman law side of it anyway. You have your rights, up until they infringe on those of others, in which case, they are not your rights.

Tuff luck if you don’t like it…
I used to really dig Fokof when they came out. I thought, “here is an Afr band that can really rock”. After all, Hunter can play the shite out of a guitar, and Johnny really knows his leads.
But when you consider what they are really about, its obvious that Fokof border on becoming a comercial scheme, blinding Afr, (and now Eng) youth into beleiving that that they are following a “greater cause”, just because it’s in their language.
I’m dubious about taking a side in this case. Musically they are talented, but are they famous for all the wrong reasons? If you have to revert to the likes of blasphemy and crudeness to gain fans and sell ablums…is that true talent?…
I wish the Fokof following would re-evaluate what they, the band, stand for, and then descide if they, the fan, want to support it, or not.
On the other hand, i wish the public would leave them alone, not get so involved in juvenile spats, the likes of which we’ve seen in the papers lately, and let the obviously liked 5-some get on with their lives, and do what they do best…get peoples backs up for being themselves.
They are an outlet for angry and misdirected young ‘uns…and the fact that they have such a strong following, shows that they are loved… What’s so wrong with that???

i just found this comment while trying to track fokof down on my space for a friend in zambia. i know it is horribly outdated, this debate surrounding the terrible antics of the country’s most popular afrikaans rock band. dear lord! (excuse the pun). i must admit, in my defense, i wasn’t here when all hell broke loose (hehehe, i just can’t help myself)i was in the land of milk and donuts i.e california and that is why i can appreciate what happened so much more. we still get very passively aggressive when someone says: fuck god! you know, in america you get shot for saying that, point blank all guts and no glory,,,here at least we can DEBATE it. i don’t like them either. but they are good and they are tight and they have the denim jackets, 70’s hairstyles and jd attitudes. and they have decent music to back it up. and yes, they are celebrities and they have this kind of responsiblity to the public to be less,,,less,,,agnostic or whatever, maybe agnostic is the wrong word all together. but you catch my vibe, they should refrain from making the personal political or vice versa i agree. but nobody made a scene when they said fokof polisiekar. or poes. for me that is eve more derogitory than atheism but what i don’t get about it all is the whole spiel about suburbia. you know, stating that fokof somehow completes this stereotype of being angry because they are suburbian and one must remember that not everyone doing the 9-5 is frustrated and mollests their kids. hhhhhmmmm. see, in that i have a polemical nuance. my pejorative is that if you suffer from suburbia (i.e live in it) you are more likely to feel that you are trapped. trapped in an economic discourse as supplied by the fundamentals in marxist-ideology. you see things advertised on tv that you’ll never have, groups you’ll never belong to and images you’ll never fit. i can see how this socio-economic balance can create this sort of rebellious tendency especially because suburbia is so…how can i phrase this without sounding condencending. i can’t. so i’m going to sound condencending. surbubia tends to force you more into a box, a church, a religion, a way of life, a routine. it does. you do what was done before you…it is safer that way. soet slaap sonder sonde. and then you get a band like fokof that make you realise that maybe you are a bit trapped. my discourse, by laws and regulations in society, by your language…your body…your country. look, i believe fokof to be augean, i do. but i like their work and if the cinemas can run the da vinci code then i’m sure it is not the end of the christian herritage if fokof says: fuck god. people say fuck god every day. and i hear the arguemnt about infingment on other people’s rights but you are looking at it all wrong. it has nothing to do with your religion or mine, it has to do with theirs. it is not your god they are saying fuck you too, it is theirs.

Well i thought I’d weigh in on this issue even though its supposedly been buried.Try telling the rest of the public that.I too respect both sides opinions, yet i am also biased since I have been a fan of the band since before they actually performed their first show,we Capies stick together you know. The thing is that most Anti-Fokofs are of the opinion that the band seems to be “resorting” to blashphemy and that they are also angry about everything ect ect.
Now it might be true that their first album “As jy met Vuur Speel sal jy Brand” was an angry-ish album what what were you expecting…some of them were fresh out of high school when that was written, the first album was a ‘valve’ for letting off some steam. The albums that followed were much more introspective, soscially aware and just overall applicable to more than just the poor little white suburban kids.
I also dont think that whats happened has affected the bands following in anyway, the shows are still packed, the fans are still supporting. The thing is I dont get why there is such a sudden uproar over this in the year 2006 since the band made it very clear that when it comes to Christianity they’ve had their fill and they really were not interested and that was way back in 2003.Am i saying Wynand should have written what he did…probably not,it would have saved everyone a lot of headaches.
I just think the whole thing was blown so out of proportian,no one seemed to notice the fact that the guy on whose wallet the damning phrase was written is also an up and coming singer in the SA scene with his mother as his some time manager, now I dont know about you but the word “PUBLICITY” seems to jump out at me. Its just silly that they went public with something that happened at 5 o clock in the morning when everyone had been drinking and was simply a discussion between two people.
As for this band making money…dont bet on it,im not saying they are poor but everything they make they put it all back into their “business” because that is what their band is. They will hoever never be rich and sipping champagne like some other SA PoP stars,I refuse to use the word artists when referring to these walking talking examples of everything that our music industry should not be.
Well that was my five cents.Love them or hate them,Fokofpolisiekar is here to stay for as long as they want to.
Cheers

En dink julle regtig dat Fokof ‘n fok voel oor wat julle te sê het? Hulle doen hulle ding, hulle het hulle fans, en dit is dit.
If you don’t like it, don’t listen to it. God, almal wil altyd ‘n fokken opinie oor iets lewer…

…In ons verbrokkelende fondasie
Is daar nou lewe in krake
Waar daar eers niks was nie
En ons sal bly en veg
En sodoende ons menswees verloor
Maar wat bly dan oor? …

It is amazing that you go on about freedom of speech and how you think FOKOF will understand it if you say what you feel! and then you go ahead and swear at them and then you go and write this sentence. “the darned dude wants to rant and rave against God, he should actually keep it to himself, because a whole lot of the people that pay for the food on his plate on a daily basis, are religious.” to me this sentence implies that “The dude” Francois is not entitled to any opinoin , and if i have it right then i hope you will understand if i call you a fucking dumb bitch who can’t help but go around airing you opinion and exposing your stupidity , now before you go around talking shit becarefull not to fucking show people that all you actually is an old fucking dry cunt who is bored. now keep your fucking legs crossed maybe you will get moisture in that dry hole of yours.
